8800GTS which one?

I am currently working on my new upgrade so I am going with these components:

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe nForce4 SLI Athlon 64(FX)/Athlon 64 X2/Sempron Skt939 DDR ATX Motherboard w/Audio, Dual Gigabit LAN, RAID/Serial ATA Retail

Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB Serial ATA II 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer

Ultra ULT33136 XVS Modular 600W Power Supply Retail

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 5000+ Socket AM2 Retail

I am looking at the asus nv 8800gts and the XFX GeForce 8800 GTS XXX Edition 640MB DDR3 PCI Express Video Card w/Dual DVI & HDTV-Out Retail

the xfx seems to be like the regular gtx card specs so do you think thats the better one for the job? Yes I thought about the gtx but i am maxed here on this config.

That XXX edition is pre-overclocked so really it depends on whether you are comfortable buying a regular GTS and OC'ing it yourself. Me personally if that card is about the same price as the others would go for that one, then at least you have the warranty for the overclocked speeds.

Hope that helps.

Arghhh you chose a Skt939 board for a AM2 processor. You owe me a beer.

I have the Abit AN9 board and have nothing but good things to say about it. Absolutely incredible board

Remember, the 8800GTS has less stream processors than the 8800GTX, so even if they have the same clock speeds, the GTX will always be faster.

yeah I know i wimped out went 939 only because I have 3 gigs of pc2700 333mhz and I dont feel like going out and spending another $$$ on ddr2 800mhz. I only have a little bit of money so i think this will do for now. I think I am going for the o/c card only like 20 bucks difference and the gtx for me is overkill can't justify it the gts performance competes with dual 7950's running sli dosen't beat it but comes real close so it will do me fine i guess. Thanks for the input friend.

No problem buddy, just caught me out a bit, you had a link to a 939 board and a AM2 processor.
Don't know if it'll help but with AMD announcing price cuts we are getting some huge discounts over here, my 5200+ in uk pounds has went from £290 2 months ago to £199 when I got it in january and today is listed at £150. Don't know if those discounts have hit over there yet. My 2GB DDR2 kit has gone from £170 to £120. My 8800GTS has gone from £299 to £199. All in 2 months

LOL I better stop there im getting depressed, those 3 components alone have dropped £200, thats something like $400US. Bah gonna cry.

just be sure that the xxx version of the card has a sufficient cooling solution for those OC speeds.

Well I ended up going with the
Asus A8N5X mobo
EVGA 8800GTS 640MB
AMD ATHLON 64 FX-60 Dual Core Processor

Very happy so far other than I have to go get another stick of memory because it would recognize my 512 stick along side my 1 gig stick.

At least if you not not in Europe.

Anyway, I advice you to get a water cooled solution if you can find one. Perhaps it is me but the older I get (by the month) the less tolerant I am towards noise, I know my next PC will be watercooled or any other cooling solution but fans.

Good luck.
