GeForce 6200 OC PCI - need help - MAJOR ERROR!!!!!!

http://www.bfgtech.com/6200_256_PCI.html
the above link is the exact video card i purchased today from a nearby bestbuy store.

here's the problem:
i put in my video card, boot it up, and it comes to the desktop, with a terrible resolution and its all off the screen and such, as one would expect when a video card is first put in, this is nothing unusual.

i put the driver CD in, as the instructions tell me to. i select english, then install new drivers... blah blah blah.. the basics, it looks as if it is working and when its around 70ish percent done, i get a black screen with a cursor in the top left part of the screen blinking.

that is most definately NOT supposed to happen. i wait a bit, cant alt f4, or any of that kind of stuff out if it, as it is a windows screen, one that you would see when you first boot up, with that font and style and everything.

i power off, and reboot to see what happens, when it first turns on it recognizes the card, and tells me its name and specs in this same windows screen, EXACTLY like my ald geforce did. then it goes to my dell screen, then to the windows loading screen, it does its normal cycle, and then the screen goes black, BUT i hear the sound that one would expect to hear when u login to windows... so... i think that its logging in and working as it should, its just not being displayed for some reason.

i am pretty sure that this is a driver error of some sort, and i have seen similar, but not exactly the same problems around on THIS site, and others... no solution has seemed to work for me.

please help <3!

here are my comp specs, if it helps
my PC is a dell, its running windows XP
1 gig of ram
2.58 GHz processor, intel celeron i think it is.
80 GB hard drive
all... pretty much standard stuff.

just a note, its a PCI card... as in, NOT PCI EXPRESS

thanks

kk. been a few hours since you posted this.

does the computer have integrated video? From the sounds of it, it does. Do this. when the computer boots up, have the monitor cable plugged into the onboard graphics. Once on desktop do this: right click on My Computer > properties > hardware tab > device manager > expand (by clicking the + sign) the display adapters icon > you should see the 6200 card and either Intel > SIS > VIA (maybe something else, but that's what i can think of off the top of my head ATM) > right click on that other device (not the geforce one) > click disable > click "ok" when it asks about the hardware changes > click "ok" when it asks to reboot > plug the monitor cable back into the 6200 card. At that point all should be well .

If you do all that and it still doesn't work, then go into your system BIOS and set the primary display adapter from onboard to PCI. Restart the machine saving settings, and all should be well .

If that doesn't work, then i don't know. That's what's known to work, so if it doesn't, then dunno what's stupposed to work. If it doesn't work, try a different PCI slot, or try the card in a different machine to see if the card is faulty. But honestly, it should just work.

oh, and welcome to DH .

You're supposed to get that screen when installing new drivers, but not for a horrendously long period. It should probably be that way for less than a minute (depending on your system, it should be considerably faster)
I remember when I had an nVidia card: when I would install drivers, it'd do the same thing for me, but then it'd go back to normal. I assume that just happens when it's replacing the display drivers and reinitiating the card within the OS.
If you get that screen for a long time, then something's definitely wrong, but you didn't specify, so I wasn't sure.

just to clarify, yes it was a horribly long time on that screen, i left it there, watched jackass 2, came back... and it was still like that.

im going to attempt what cd'sdontburn has suggested, but i am not sure if this will work either.

when i have my video card in, and my monitor plugged into the default spot using the intel graphics card it came with... then it doesnt show anything @ anytime...

LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe
YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

CDsDontBurn will you marry me?

nah... but thanks man, its working now, i booted it up with the monitor plugged into thr card, then changed it to the default slot when that stopped working, couldnt find the device manager so i played around... for me it was in Control Panel > Administartive tools > computer managment > double click device manager > then hit the + next to display devices.

once there i just disabled the intel chip, rebooted like i was prompted to, and plugged the monitor into my new video card.

thanks
