Help Regarding 8800 GTX

I was'nt too sure on if i should stick this topic here but here it goes.

Im going to buy a 8800GTX soon but i need help from you guys to tell me if my motherboard is compatable. Its the dreaded ASUS A8R MVP board which i used my crossfire system on. On various sites selling the 8800 GTX it states that you need x16 PCIE slot to run the card and dual x16 PCIE slots for SLi.

Now, my motherboard has a x16 PCIE slot but if in crossfire the two PCIE slots run at x8 speed. However i have sum sort of card that i place in the motherboard to use if i want to use a single card at x16 speed. Long story short, can anyone confirm to me if the 8800 GTX will work on the ASUS A8R MVP board. Thanks.

Nah, it should work fine. They were probably trying to sell you an nvidia based board which you dont need. The 7950GX2 does not like to play nice with the RDX200 chipset but that is a totally different card and it was because it used SLI.

Yeah - with one g card - that mobo works with one slot at 16x or if two slots are in use then they both operate at 8x.

Just means you can't have two GTXs on that board... but then you couldn't have sli on a non-nforce board anyway.
