MSI 8800GTX slow bench mark
Hey All,
First time poster...
I was wondering if you all could be of assistance. I have recently gone out and purchased a new comp (specs on the side <---) and wanted to bench mark this puppy to see how the video card went. So i tried it out on 3DMark06. Seeing as my monitor has not come in as yet, im just using a 17" CRT which isnt the greatest resolution wise, so i just put it on full detail at 1024x768. I dont know what is wrong, but im only averaging something like 20fps !!! at these graphics i would of been expecting a 1 in front of those figures.
I had the lastest nvidia drivers, but have heard there have been some problems, so i just uninstalled them and installed earlier drivers, i believe the 96.89. Though am still getting the same FPS.
Any ideas on why this is running soooooooo slow ????
Thanks.
Regards,
Dave
Edit: I left out that i am running Windows XP Pro x64

Hmm.. those numbers could be right. If it goes higher more than lower. 3DMark06 as I understand is a pretty hard test. Although you would think on 1024x768 it would be getting higher... Is it a new install of Windows? Maybe it's the monitor holding you back... although I doubt it. Just try general fixes, install latest drivers after drivercleaner, change settings etc. Maybe someone else can shed more light onto this situation
What's the actual score it's getting?

Well, if you're trying to compare your score to other scores, then you should run 3DMark06 at default settings. Don't change ANYTHING, including resolution, detail level, etc.

Do you have all of your motherboard drivers installed and everything?
And just FYI, Windows XP 64-bit is not exactly the OS of choice for gaming, which is why most stick to the 32-bit version for now.
But, I think it's the drivers that are the culprit right now.

yeah, i installed all the mobo drivers.
as for the OS, yeah i know its not the greatest for gaming, but i needed the 64bit verison as standard xp pro does not let you run 4gig of ram...

well, the most extreme "troubleshooting" you can do to see if the OS is the culprit is temporarily install XP 32-bit and take out 2gb of ram and test.
of course, if you do that, i'd suggest some video drivers like DHzer0point.
i know that's a little extreme, but hey, it's an idea.

yeah, i was thinking that, but really want to make that a last resort.
running at all default settings in 3dmark 06, i managed to get 2996...so its got massive problems, it should be 3x that...
ahhh, im pulling my hair out atm, :@

Well, the only thing I can think of at the moment is faulty drivers or just Windows. I'm more inclined to think it's just Windows, but that's just me.

Yeah... for some reason (unless it was designed for it), most things don't like x64 Probably because most people don't use it (yet) and M$ aren't as inclined to release "bug fixes".

somehow i think the problem lies with windows...
your C2D processor is a 32bit processor, not 64, therefore when you try to use a 64bit OS with the 32bit processor, things tend to get bottlenecked...

Whew, if it wasn't, WTF lol. I'd say if you can't fix it any other way, install 32 bit windows.

are all dual core processors, no matter if its Centrino Duo, Core Duo or Core 2 Duo 64bit?
nvm i found the answer on the intel website, was refering to their technical datasheets...
but 1 thing i cant find is, if they are all using the same sockets?

This may not mean much but I was recently told by a moderator of a very reputable Nvidia forum that Nvidia does not care about 64Bit Windows...
Here's what I suggest trying:
1.) Uninstall your Nvidia drivers.
2.) Enter safemode and run drivercleaner. Make sure to first clean the DRIVER.CAB and then proceed to clean the Nvidia drivers.
3.) Restart the PC and download the latest version of Driectx 9.0c decemeber release. Get it at this link here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
4.) Next download the latest chipset driver from the following link:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...9&submit=Go%21
5.) Next download the latest X64bit driver for your 8800:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp64_97.44.html
6.) I suggest setting all options in the Nvidia Control Pannel to Application preference and give 3DMark a try.
Hopefuly things will speed up for you.
Edit: Also please post the modle and wattage of your Power Supply. Having a POS power supply combined with an 8800 has been known to produce poor performance.
