??? what is/was the fastest AGP card?

Yes i know everybody is moving on to PCI express. My question is, have they now stoped making 'top of the line' video cards in AGP? & if so, what would be the fastest/best video card avalible on the AGP bus? (either second hand or new)plz tell me its an Nvidia? (i have my reasons)Are/will they still produce there top models on the AGP bus? or have 'top of the line' new models for the AGP ceased?

okay.. i've been away from my obsesive reading of PC mags for a while..(i got laid) To simplifiy, could someone explain the order of the card names ? ie it use to be something like: ULTRA was best, then the GTS, & MX etc.. etc.. if u get what i mean.

Gainward has released a 7800GS+ which actually has a 7900GT core for AGP.
Of course, they're only manufacturing 1500 of these, so they'll be expensive and hard to find.

Hey MGaz,
If you plan on putting either the 7800gs " any version " or any of the x1950pro agp cards in the system listed in your sig then I personally think you will be disappointed. It might even cause way to many problems to justify the swap. You could always downclock the card so your cpu can keep up but it would be best to either get a less powerful card or upgrade your system a little.

As far as the fastest agp card goes, it is the x1950pro by a bunch. The only version of the 7800gs that can compete is the Gainward Bliss edition. Like others have said though, you will not find one easily. If you do, you will pay a load of cash and still your system will be totally bottlenecked.

well i'll be getting my bros 'hand me down' system at some point in the not too distant future, it's a p4 3.0GHz with 1gB ram, & AGP mobo.. with 256mb ASUS ATi x800 pro.(i think)

What i'm looking for is a speed boost for the games i have at the moment (because of my 3D glasses mostly). And a Gfx card that i can transfer to this P4 system when i get my grubby mits on it. & i'm focusing on an NVIDIA card because there drivers support my glasses out of the box, & i'm not sure how well an ATi will work with my 'GEEK goggles' lol

What do you think? should i just stick with waiting for my bros ATi x800 pro? , and maybe buy a 'gap filler' before i get hold of said ATi and P4?

if so,.. what gap filler should i get? Or should i just stick with my original plan?

p.s
why would i need down clock the card for my cpu to 'keep up' ? A bottle neck is a bottle neck.. how and why would down clocking a gfx card help matters? or make a difference?

I remember when i upgraded from a p166mmx to an AMD 500 k62. I had the exact same voodoo1 Gfx card in both, & it went like Concorde when in the 500MHz system. That old voodoo1 obviously had a lot more potential than the CPUs available at the time of its conception.

It all comes down to personal preference when we are talking about hardware that is as close in power as the 7800gs and 1950pro. They are both good cards but the question was what is or was the fastest AGP card. Now that you know, it is up to you. I personally would never base my decision of a major hardware item on the fact that one card has " geek glasses support " out of the box. I am not even sure what that is.

There are allot of cards you could get that will dramatically improve your gaming experience compared to the card that you are using now. for about 50.00 to 75.00 you can get a new 9600pro or go used and get a fx5700ultra, 5800series, 5900 series, 9700pro, or even a 9500pro that overclocks like crazy, and many others.

The bottlenecking issue is because that xp1800 would not even come close to keeping up with either card. The GPU doesn't do all the work when rendering a 3d game. You would have lag in between the image on the monitor and the control of the movement within that image, mouse, keyboard, gamepad, character movement, etc.

There are far more qualified people than I that can explain it in detail.

if u want THE fastest AGP card get the X1950 PRO if u want to use ur geek goggles go with the 7800GS both are similarly priced and the X1950 is in its own class of AGP in performance. i believe the x1950 PRO beats the 7950GT card from pci express

i highly doubt that the 7950GT is outperformed by the x1950pro in AGP or PCI-E form.

in fact, what i found out while doing research on this card, is that the PowerColor version of the x1950pro, is slightly better than a 7900GT. So, if that's the case, an x1950pro running at stock clock speeds would be slightly under that of the 7900GT.

@ MGaz
both those card would probably perform about the same on your system, with the the x1950pro 512 one being able to reach greater playable resolutions or more AA/AF. I would prolly go with the the one that would tax your PSU the least as to try to avoid any power related problems, what PSU are u running? i dont know and havent researched at all but im betting the x1950pro draws more power than the 7800GS + it is nVidia that supports these glasses, right? the x1950 would would be slightly more future proof with higher clock speeds and a better GPU architecture

i think im gonna pick up this sucker when it comes out here in the US towards the end of this month.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=GX-069-HT

clocked higher then the other cards too. comes in at 620/1480. all the others are 575/1380. and this one comes with an IceQ3 Turbo attached to it. looks to be an excellent HS.

uhh..does that date say December 1 2007?

i think i heard HIS cards are not recognized by the Catalyst drivers from ATi and need to be used with the drivers on the cd (some people say they arent very stable nor wil it be 100% that they run)
