PNY Geforce 6200 AGP Problems
Well my friend brought his pc to my house since he was getting blue screens. We determined this was a sector problem on his harddrive so we went out and got a new one. Now he had a GeForce 6200 agp 128mb. The card worked fine before and it even worked fine before the blue screens
Once we put the new harddrive in the colors in text were distorted. We shut his pc down and removed the card. Once we put it back in it produced squares across the whole screen with black and white and red colors. We put an fx 5200 in it to see if it was something else but it worked fine with an fx 5200. Is the card dead?

Static is your enemy. YES, you could have destroyed the card simply by touching the wrong thing inside the case. Precisely why anti-static wrist straps exist. Perhaps you just got unlucky....
I'm not saying thats what happened, but its certainly possible. I'd try that card in a different computer myself. Maybe there was something else wrong with the card, (causing the blue screens which stressed the drive as it was not able to correctly write due to the errors), and the stress of bringing the machine over pushed it over the edge... Again, just some thoughts, I'd be testing in another machine. |
