How much difference does a 256bit bus make ?

Hey all,

I recently bought a 6800 256mb card. I mistakenly purchased the 128bit version. Now I am happy witht the card, it's way faster than what had b4. However my buddy wants to get a card and would buy the one I have so I could get the 256bit bus version.

Question: How much real world difference are we talking about between equivelent GPU's with a 256bit bus vs. a 128bit bus?

I run at 1280x1024(960 sometime) due to my LCD. Now with bigger higher res textures I would think memory bandwith would make a big difference.

Please advise.

Also 1 last question: I just found a 7600GS 256mb AGP card at an affordable price, but it's 128bit. Would that 7600GS blow away a 256bit 6800XT? (I have a P4 3ghz)

Thanks,

Kalo

You really should upgrade to the best AGP card on the market, which is either 7800GS or 7900GS. The platform has been mostly discontinued and it doesnt make much sense to settle for a lower end 7600 or 6800.

The 7600GS will dominate a 6800XT any day.

PC_Inquisitor has a spectacular aura aboutPC_Inquisitor has a spectacular aura about

I have a XFX 7800 GS and it runs well any game (sometimes Oblivion goes a little slow) at 1280x1024. GRAW goes perfect at that resolution. Between the cards you say... go for the newer, 7600 has SM 3.0

If you can, buy a 7800GS or 7900GS
