Wanting a new card, definately not an ATI!

Hey people,

I am looking for a graphics card because, let's face it, my radeon 9600PRO is out-of-date now.

Anyway, I was looking in the region of a 7600GS or GT but when looking on stores on the webby, I have seen that some 6800XTreme cards are more expensive than the 7600GS and GT, are they any better or is it just because it is a better manufacturer or something?

Thanks, any reply is appreciated.

Ah right, Ok thanks.

Well I pretty sure that I will get a 7600GT then but was looking at the 1600XT which is cheaper and it has an extra 40Mhz on the Core:

1600XT: Core 600MNhz
Memory : 1400Mhz
7600GT: Core 560Mhz
Memory: 1400Mhz

I know the thread is called "definately not an ATI" but I'm not so sure now, as it is about £15 cheaper($25) and I want to get the best deal. Is there something the 7600GT has that the 1600XT doesn't have that I am missing? Is the a reason for it being more expensive?

Thanks,

Any reply is appreciated.

Sandok has a spectacular aura aboutSandok has a spectacular aura about

Well the 7600 GT is faster than the X1600XT by quite a bit in many games... And quieter! What the X1600XT offers is HDR + AA (but since it's a budget card you won't be using that feature very often) and it offers AVIVO which is more or less NV's Purevideo thingy...

Go for the 7600GT mate, well worth it!

Alright thanks Sandok, and an awesomely quick reply!

I was originally looking at the 7600GT and ATI and VIA has been a big problem for me lately so, thanks for the info and confirm. I'll be ordering it in the next week I'm guessing, after my GCSEs have finished.

Thanks all.

go nividia!

hahaha, you made the right choice. Though i am quite waiting for the prices of nvidia cards to really go down. Since they were touting that their new cards were made with smaller fab process (can't remember if it was 90nm or 65nm, maybe 90nm). Oh well guess that smaller fab doesn't mean smaller price (take a look at intel).
