I just spent about 20 minutes snooping around on Google, and it seems that the 6800xt is based on the NV42 core, and cannot be unlocked. I maybe wrong, but I don't think that I am.

6800XT is based off of the NV40 core, but it is usually manufactured using broken cores, so the potential to unlock anything is extremely slim. I'd personally stay away from these and just go with something else.

.

I recently picked up an XFX 6800XT and according to RivaTuner it has the NV42 core. I have not been able to unlock anything. It is supposed to overclock very well, however, because it uses a new die shrink, than the NV 40 core, as well as perhaps running a little cooler.

RivaTuner 2.0 RC16 shows my XFX 6800XTreme with a NV42 also. overclocks well, can't unlock the pipes. Running 410 1130.
Driver update trouble all else is fine.
