I think they're abot the same with performance, but I'd stick with your card, I guess... That's my suggestion.

performance wise they are about the same. the 6600 gives you shader 3.0 & and the more viable option of sli. other than that i would stick with your card if you are happy with it & are not having any issues.

buy a faster card... PCIe or AGP, who knows what you have... is the GT a PCIe part only? Can't remember.

bwx is right. going to the 6600 will not give you what you are looking for. you need to buy a new card. of course your overall system could be part of your problem to.

Well on the one above, or THIS ONE for PCIx, the highest 6600GT numbers are 60% of the lowest x800 numbers. I call that not even close, unless the X800 is SEVERELY crippled.

Keep the X800 and wait for something better like 7800GS.

Or do what I did, bite the bullet and go PCIe- no sense in upgrading AGP now.

The X800GT is worse than the normal X800, yes...

the gt is slower. it was made specifically to compete with the 6600.

yea the x800gt is a crippled r480 core running 8 piplines at 475mhz (core) and 980mhz (memory) but is a pci- part but the mobo i got is very slow (ecs rs482-m754).
the 6600gt 256mb is an agp part but i have a decent agp mobo sat here doing nothing (abit kv8-pro).
the pci-e changeover was very dissapointing to me as there was no major speed increases by changing from agp (perhaps due to the crap mobo) but as i know nothing about nvidia`s cards i just thought id ask which was better
system specs:-
amd athlon 64 3000+
1gb samsumg ddr3200 ram
120gb ide 133 hdd
ecs rs482-m754 (can be changed for abit kv8-pro)
550 watt power maxx psu
sound blaster audigy sound card
powercolor x800gt 256mb gfx card (can be changed for 6600gt 256mb if advised)

-because you have a slow poke card..
Get a card with some balls and you will be more impressed. Lot's of good choices out there, and cheap too. Get a 7900GT... 300 bucks (or cheaper) and it will be the fastest thing in your rig- and will outlast all the other parts in your PC until they are all upgraded.
http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...LJ:en&q=7900gt
Or if you want to spend less there are plenty of MUCH faster cards out there than what you have for around 200 bucks or less...

Yeah I hear you, I am usually in the same boat.. I can only upgrade every 3 or 4 blue moons.
I got lucky and was able to spend a little this year on some PC stuff. If you lived in the US I would sell you my X800XL- it does 420/545 all day long, cool and zero artifacts. Pretty quick card actually. Doesn't artifact till much higher on ram and about 430 on core. But that's how I ran it. Just sitting in a box, what a waste. I might use it for a rig for my wife though. Oh, it's AGP anyway though so it wouldn't help you.
I would just try to OC your card, see what it can do.. maybe that's why the other guy wants to trade? Maybe his card is fried? Maybe yours is unlockable or something? I never followed those mid ranged cards to closely- but who knows.
I'd definitely start saving for a faster card, I can tell you it's worth it. I can actually play FEAR (demo, just was a minute ago) with almost all settings maxed out and it is smooth. What an amazing looking game. If you save up for a fast card, all your games will come alive, I can tell you that.
I would seriously try to overclock your CPU and video card and see how fast they go.. maybe they will surprise you?

from wot ive read the x800gt is a great overclocker but u only gain about 3-5 fps but the piplines are hardware locked at 8 (no way to unlock them) but as for the 6600gt ive got no idea perhaps someone can shed some more light on the issue ???????????

All the AGP models kept pace with their PCI-X counterparts. Since there is no 7900GTX AGP theres no way to see if it would do the same but I'm guessing it would.

Yeah but AGP systems themselves are not as fast.. they just aren't. Anyway, as soon as you upgrade something faster comes out, no matter what.

Hmm, I don't think I agree with this one. On the Intel side, it took DDR2-533 for a PCIx chipset to suprpass the memory throughput of the i875p, and there is still no video card fast enough to saturate an AGP 8x bus.
The change to PCIx was to accomodate future rigs, not rigs of right now.
