NLynx Technologies, the largest independent supplier of IBM midrange and mainframe peripherals and connectivity solutions, recently announced the OmniTerm/900w Thin Client solution with embedded Windows CE support. The OmniTerm/900w Thin Client optimizes user productivity by employing the familiar Windows desktop Graphical User Interface (GUI) while supporting one of the most extensive feature sets available in a thin client solution.
There are thin clients on the market that support Windows operating systems, but NLynx provides the "look and feel" users typically associate with a full-blown PC solution. The OmniTerm/900w combines the GUI and functionality that users know, which means quicker return on investment (ROI) by eliminating downtime associated with new technology training and implementation,? stated Alan Humphrey, president and CEO of NLynx Technologies. ?Marrying the familiarity of a known entity like Windows with the solid state design of thin client architecture ? no moving parts that can break, no hard drives that promote spread of computer virus activity ? is a winning combination.?
The newest addition to the company?s line of thin client and terminal solutions, the NLynx OmniTerm/900w Thin Client provides access to traditional corporate business as well as web-enabled applications. Supporting its extensive AS/400, iSeries and mainframe customer base, NLynx has embedded support for TN5250e, TN3270e, RDP for Microsoft servers, ICA Client for Citrix, and VT 120/220/320 for UNIX. Additional embedded features include Notepad, web browsing via Internet Explorer and an email client. Microsoft Viewer and Acrobat Reader are optional.
In addition to its extensive client support, the OmniTerm/900w supports the broadest range of IBM AS/400 features available in any thin client solution,: 122-key twinax keyboard support; keyboard mapping, such as F keys, enter key and alphanumeric keys; 80/132 column support; parallel, serial and networked printer support; screen saver and display attributes; configurable column separator; rule cursor for vertical, horizontal and cross; play, record and pause macros and hot spot support; copy and paste functions; configurable color for foreground, background and text; and customizable toolbars to simplify use.
The flexible 10/100 Ethernet compatible (RJ45 twisted pair) hardware design incorporates two compact flash slots, one serial port, one parallel port, two Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports for quick and easy peripheral device attachment, two PS/2 ports for mouse and keyboard, a stereo audio-out connection and internal auto-sensing power supply. Upon request, the Omniterm/900w can be factory-customized with customer-specific software and hardware configurations, providing a complete solution that is virtually plug-and-play from the shipping box. The innovative solution can also be easily upgraded to 802.llb wireless connectivity, eliminating the need to install costly and cumbersome cabling in new or expanding network installations.
The OmniTerm/900w ships in January, and lists for $669.00.
