If you checked out our
world exclusive benchmarks of the new Quake 4 1.05 with dual core and multi CPU performance enhancements you found that we had none. Well turns out there is an issue causing this, and our results are correct. Stay tuned as we will be letting you know what this issue is shortly. Update: Nvidia says there is an issue between the 1.05 multithreading and the 80 series driver multithreading support. They believe that the problem happens from the 81.84 drivers and on. They are working on fixing the issue, and Nzone will have a fix as soon as it is available. They believe early next week a new revision will be available that lets you toggle multithreading support on and off in their drivers for an immediate fix. For our testing we did use drivers beyond 81.84.
From reports we have seen around the web this seems to be an issue with Intel and AMD systems alike. Also it is possible that any other game with multithreading support could also have performance issues. We have not seen any reports as of yet with ATI's Catalyst 5.12 drivers which also support dual core having similar results. Stay tuned as we continue our Quake 4 testing to bring you more information.
