Dell: Want to upgrade to Windows XP Professional x64? $40, please

One of the primary OEMs, at least in the US, Dell has announced the details of its upgrade path for users of x86-64 (x64-capable) PCs, that are currently running Windows XP Professional and would like to upgrade to Windows XP Professiona x64 Edition.

Contrary to Microsoft, which offers a $12 upgrade cost, Dell will be charging $40 ($50 outside the USA).

The exchange price is valid from April 25th through July 31st, 2005. After that the only way users can get x64 OS is through the purchase of a new PC.

This upgrade path is not geared towards home users by Dell, as only select models of Dell Precision workstations with 64-bit capable Intel Xeon class CPUs are eligible for this upgrade.

Just Goes to show what a crock Dell really is,
I think it's still a crock they don't want to go to AMD

Personally I think they should go from being all Intel to All AMD especially with AMD taking a lead in the market for Dual Core.

That would Give AMD profits, and Share. and they would definitely level playing field

We need an anti-computercompanieswhoextortpeoplelikedell advertising campaign.

and i feel sad for people who buy dell cause they are "cheaper".

maybe in quality, but not really in price.

I still say you can't beat their customer support if you don't know what you're doing on computers. Oh Yeah - I mean DOWN WITH DELL.
