it can hold sections in the cache at times. best way to bench is from a fresh reboot, load photoshop then run the test as I said in the documentation. (or take an average of 3 runs).

It's strange how the G5 is fast at the low digits, and seems to slow down on the longer processes...

Yes plenty of people are new to the program, which is why I wrote a guide as I said here http://www.driverheaven.net/photoshop/ - if you take some time robert and read that page first you will know how to run the benchmark. the information you need to read the times is explained on that page. It wont take long and will ensure you know what you are doing - and there is a popup after every test telling you to look and mark down the figure from the timing readout bottom left of the screen
