Press Release: Sneak Peek at the World's First 512MB Gaming Card
ATI sponsors the Ultimate LAN at Texas Gaming Festival
MARKHAM, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 2005-- Gamers from around the world are invited to join ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX:ATY)(NASDAQ:ATYT) and its marketing partners at the Ultimate LAN, held in association with the Texas Gaming Festival in Dallas, February 25th to 27th. In addition to offering gamers three days of top-notch gaming, the event will include an overclocking demonstration and a PC modding event. Attendees will get the opportunity to preview the world's first 512MB gaming card and one lucky gamer will even get to take one home.
"Participating in events like this gives us the opportunity to find out what gamers want and need for competitive gaming," said Rich Heye, Vice President and GM, Desktop Discrete Products, ATI. "And to say thanks for supporting ATI, we are giving attendees at this event an opportunity to check out the world's first 512MB gaming cards before we send them out to our software partners for development of next-generation games."
In addition, world champion overclockers will test their mettle - and their silicon - to set new world records. Top overclockers Eric Kronies, Charles Wirth and Sami Makinen will also take a break from overclocking their own systems to answer attendees' system-tweaking questions and offer tips for overclocking PCs for ultimate performance.
Attendees will vote on whose PC at the event is most in need of an overhaul. The lucky winner will have his or her PC rebuilt by modding experts using the latest technology from ATI and its partners.
And as is the norm at ATI-sponsored LAN parties, participants can expect lots of giveaways and prizes, including high-end desktop and notebook PCs powered by ATI hardware. Other sponsors of the event include ABIT, AMD, ArenaNet, ATARI, Corsair, Gigabyte, Kingston, LG, NCSoft, OCZ, Running with Scissors, Sapphire and UBISOFT.
For more information or to register, please visit ATI at www.ati.com/gitg or the Texas Gaming Festival at www.txgf.com.

Sorry Zardon buddy I better stop this one before I get crucified, I was just having a bit of fun and realise the Wildcat is a CAD card. Just to reassure people check out my system specs, I would never again buy anything but an ATI card and im eternally grateful for all the hard work they've put in leading the market so that I can fully enjoy the games I play everyday.
On a lesser note it appears Nvidia have responded pretty quickly by releasing a 512mb and touting the technically flawed Sli to try and steal the ball back.
Just to show how quickly new technology is incorporated Samsung only actually started providing manufacturers with 512mb ram chips round about mid october last year. It's a dog eat dog world out there but we are the winners.

If I had to guess?
Humm... each card can only have acess to 8X pci express insted of the full 16X, wich supposedly thier pci express cards are agp8x parts slapped on with a bridge chip to pci express anyways. Add to that the added cost about $700 +/- extra, premuim to build a top sli system. It requires custom programed game profiles and doesn't work with quite a few games where I've seen as many as a dozen test results in a single review showing a X800Xt beating two 6800U's in sli... To add the that ATI hold the rights to the raved about and popular AFR mode.. so they could put the squeze on them if they wanted too...
I'm aganist duel cards it's stupid.... Makes far more since to make 1 card with 2 gpu's with each it's own memory.. which has not only been going on for a verry long time time, even the old radeons have multi gpu capabilities... So two gpu's on one care makes far more since.. not to mention it performs better and it costs less to make and would be far cheaper for the consumer. Gigabyte has the right idea with putting two gpu's on one card...
No need for no premuim and nvidia tax on sli capable boards...
any AGP/pcie board could handle a multi GPU card...
It might bee good in some cases and when some one has far more money to blow then me. Might be good but I'm intersted in seeing what ati's pulling out when they finally show thier hand....

I might agree with Neon, but dual GPU cards, as far as I know, never went well in the market: Fury Maxx, Voodoo5, Volari Duo... For some reason, it's more acceptable for people this way. Can't say why, I've never been rich enough to be trully tempted to get a dual GPU card or two cards for SLI. Anyway, now it's a matter of marketing. Everyone is so crazy about SLI and it brings the company the attention of those who will never be really into buying this (which is almost everyone), and if a company doesn't support SLI, it means it's technologically behind the competition. (to those who bought FX5200 because it fully supports DX9)

I think he means the driver implementation / game support is far from perfect right now. I would agree - we posted detailed information on this before. Hopefully it will improve over time, im sure it will.

Actually there are alot more then that but they've been alot more recent and expensive becouse they were also alot more powerfull used in specail applications such as powering intense millitary simulartors that the main stream gameing cards would no chance in hell of handleing.. Point being if you going to do 2 cards, it's sence less... when you could just do duel core and get it over with... Not to mention again it's faster + cheaper all around!
think about it two cards $, twice the materials$, includeing 2 boxes$, 2 cd's two static bags$ and packageing$ and paper work$ all the cost it pushed into the end price not to mention special mother board and extra high power PSU
Acually the Voodoo's where really popular compaired to quote a few others but they had finicals problems and nvidia gobbled them up....Thier still bough an sold on ebay and go for more then wat thier worth really....part becouse they where cool other is becouse thier rare...
The new gigabyte Dual 6600GT card has gotten alot of recent press....
Check this out Quad 9700 cores!... 1 GB of memory!!!!
http://www.dvhardware.net/print.php?sid=2076
it's a mulltitary simulator card only retails for about $10,000
(hey Z I found it)
