Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Video Developer Diaries

The first video delivers an inside look at development of the game for the PlayStation 2 – Andre Roy (PS2 Producer) and Dominique Guay (Lead Programmer) unveil and explain some of the graphical techniques including reflection and geotexturing, as well as the dynamic water system, which creates some of the most impressive effects ever seen on the PS2. In the second video, lead AI programmer Frederic Blais discusses the completely retooled AI for Chaos Theory. Smarter, craftier, and more dangerous, the NPCs display varying levels of stress, a bevy of new barks, better memories, and the ability to team up to execute more sophisticated search sweeps. In the third video, lead sound designer Fabien Noel explains the way that sounds are integrated into the game, and how they affect gameplay – Sam’s got a new wound meter, which means that he can make more or less noise according the level of ambient sound in his environment. With light and shadows, sound now becomes an extremely important element in the game as well. Check out the music from soundtrack composer Amon Tobin as well.
