Comcast expected to raise broadband speeds
Comcast next week is expected to announce plans to raise its broadband Internet speeds for all customers by at least a third later this year, according to sources familiar with the plans.
The nation's largest cable company and broadband provider will raise its current speed of up to 3mbps (megabits per second) downstream and 256kbps (kilobits per second) upstream to 4mbps and 384kbps, respectively, at no additional cost. Comcast will also offer its more expensive 4mbps customers a 50 percent increase to 6mbps downstream and 768kbps upstream, the sources said.
Comcast has upgraded its speed as part of an overall effort not only to distance itself from slower DSL (digital subscriber line) services but to add more high-bandwidth features, such as video e-mail, for its Comcast.net subscribers.

My DSL is 3000/384 and has been for a while. Everytime other companies start upping their bandwidth Earthlink follows suite so I would expect to see 4000/384 sometime soon.

I got an email on my Comcast account late last week saying (in less technical terms) that they'd be flashing everyone's modem last Sunday. I wonder if this is related. The email was really vague and non-technical about what exactly they were doing.
Maybe broadbandreports.com has something up about it (or at least on the forums).

I was with Comcrap for 2 years and am glad am no longer a customer - worse latency ever (made online games unplayable) - refused to put me on a different node as mine was overcrowded - I had the ultralink service...if it works good for you, then fine, if it does not then good luck...

Here in canada, there never seems to be a speed increase unless you pay extra. There's just not enough choices for broadband I guess. At least I get 512kbps upload speed though (but only 1.5mbps dn); many american isp's skimp out on the up speed.

Good news, comcast is finally learning..now if they could only drop the prices a bit. I was a customer for almost two years until I found RCN; I started out with a 3000/800 service and every year since then they bump the speeds 2Mbps for free. Now they're at 7000/800(it costs less $$ than comcasts 3000/256 service) and the next bump is coming up soon

I wouldnt
How much do you download a day compared to how much you upload per day?
Switching to a better upload speed but slower download speed would be retarded

BZZZZ Wrong. Running any kind of a server, which I do, I upload more. MANY people would rather have a higher upload and sacrifice some download speed. The upload is the weakest link of your connection.
BTW. Retarded? What's with the name calling?

oh sorry didnt know you had a server....
I wasnt calling you retarded, I was calling the idea retarded
Sorry should have added "IMHO" In my humble opinion, cause it just means soo much
But yeah I'd actually LOVe to have a better upload speed, mainly for bittorrent so I can keep my ratio as close to 1:1 as possible for all trackers, kinda a bitch to do right now...

People are suppesting that they are badwith shapeing.Bit torrent is pritty much dead to me. I can only dl 5-6k on a really popular torrent. The worst thing is that I cant switch from them
Im gonna call them today and bitch at them

You need to find some better sources for torrents buddy
Everything I download is well-seeded and I always get speeds of 100kb/-350kb/s

CHange the default port - MANY ISP's are blocking or reducing the speed on all default peer to peer software ports. It worked wonders for me.
