Default Post Gran Turismo 4 ships one million in two days

Sony and Polyphony Digital's hit driving simulator peels out of the retail gate in Japan.

TOKYO--While Sony Computer Entertainment's Gran Turismo 4 missed Christmas by three days in Japan, the game nevertheless has been selling extremely well. Sony announced it has shipped one million copies of Gran Turismo 4 during its first two days of release, December 28 and 29.

The game's shipment beats the Gran Turismo series' record of 1 million copies in three days, set by Gran Turismo 3 from April 28 to 30, 2001. Overall, the franchise has sold 36 million cumulative copies worldwide since the title was released in 1997.

Although it had been expected in time for the 2004 holidays, Gran Turismo 4 is now tentatively scheduled for Q1 2005 release in North America. However, GameSpot editors recently got to test drive the Japanese version of the game--read our Import Impressions to learn more.
