Microsoft to secure IE for XP only

If you're one of about 200 million people using older versions of Windows and you want the latest security enhancements to Internet Explorer, get your credit card ready.

Microsoft this week reiterated that it would keep the new version of Microsoft's IE Web browser available only as part of the recently released Windows XP operating system, Service Pack 2. The upgrade to XP from any previous Windows versions is $99 when ordered from Microsoft. Starting from scratch, the operating system costs $199.

instead of paying $99 just get another broswer like firefox free and in most people's opinion safer than IE.

This could present real problems for those organizations (the one I am a part of included) that rely on IE and have not adopted SP2 yet while testing for application compatibility. and Microsoft is due to enforce the changeover to SP2 via Windows Update soon.

I can understand them not wanting to upgrade XP SP1's IE, but I believe that they still owe it to people using Windows 2000. A lot of companies won't move to XP because it's not worth the upgrade from 2000. If Microsoft doesn't want to see more corporations using Mozilla, then they sure aren't acting like it.

Tell that to the poor (read: not tech savvy) shmucks who get their personal info stolen or whatnot all because M$ wouldn't keep their browser secure. Some people can't migrate because of VERY limited funds, should they have to left vulnerable?
