GeForce FX and Half-Life 2: DirectX 8 only?

Since discovering that GeForce FX cards defaulted to DirectX 8, we've been curious how to force the cards to run Valve's DX9 path. Over the weekend we got the console commands, and have been busy testing out a few theories. In this article we explore the various code paths, taking a look at image quality and performance with a variety of GeForce FX and RADEON cards. See what we found out inside!.

Why did they include the 6800 scores but exclude the X800 scores

Because if they had done it the other way, they would have been overwhelmed by angry NV toddlers

well they should be anyways becouse asumeing thats true then NV's bechs in the recent results would be lower the previously thought....

Long as it's factuall and desn't leave anything out
they have to take it at face value

i don't think the x800 xt PE should have been included, as the 6800 Ultra wasn't, but the pro should have definately been in there

either way...i'm now very curious to see if this is applicationd etection, or even if DX9 can be forced by some external application such as PStrip or something?

and if it is fact that the FX's CAN NOT PHYSICALLY RUN the HL2 dx9 path....

then either HL2 is optomized for ATi cards beyond belief(bad for valve/ati), or the GF:FX cards have been lying and aren't fully DX 9 compliant(could put nvidia out of business)

Just a harmless can of gasoline, besides does it really matter if the game runs on 115 or 100 fps ?? not to me anyway asl ong as the game doesn't stutter i'm a happy Gordon

btw. wasn't it just yesterday when someone @ the Inq. wrote that Ati does not have a full DX9 line-up ?? well if one card is a full line-up then NV must be happy..
