Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro Review

VR-Zone has reviewed Sapphire's Radeon X800 Pro.
  • "Since ATI's R300 was first announced towards the end of 2002, things can't seem to go wrong for ATI. Their Radeon 9700 Pro graphics card outperformed NVIDIA's GeForce 4 Ti 4600 in just about every test imaginable, setting the stage for the Radeon 9800 Pro's toppling of the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, and the Radeon 9800XT's triumph over the GeForce FX 5950 Ultra. Basically, the last two years have been nothing but successfully for ATI, and their most recent product family, the R420, looks like it will usher in a whole new era of success for the company.

Announced in May, the R420 based X800 series of graphics cards has just over the last few weeks hit store shelves in full force through the Radeon X800 Pro. The X800 Pro is a scaled down version of the Radeon X800XT Platinum Edition, the $499 part of the R420 series that has yet to hit the retail market. The main differences between the Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition and the Radeon X800 Pro are core speed, memory speed, and pixel pipelines. The X800 Pro uses 12 pixel pipelines and a 475MHz core with 900MHz memory, while the X800 XT Platinum Edition runs at 520MHz core and 1.12GHz memory, with 16 pixel pipelines used. The wide spread availability of the X800 series sharply contrasts NVIDIA's GeForce FX 6800 Ultra, a card that was announced in April and still is not available in the retail market."
