DirectX Security Update
Microsoft has released a DirectX security update for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003
A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to cause DirectX, or applications using DirectX, to become unresponsive.
Download: Windows xp : Windows xp 64-bit : Windows Server 2003 : Windows Server 2003 64-bit
Also available via windows update.

uh-oh... tried th download version and got an error about necessary 'prequesites' not being present :S the windows update worked just fine though... need to add this to my unattend DVD... anyone else had the same problems?!

It means you disabled the necessary service(s) that allows Windows Update to function correctly. You need all these on Automatic (not sure about Manual):
Automatic Updates
Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Event Log
If you don't know how to access services, go to Start>>Run and type in 'services.msc'. Now you have a list of the services and you can set if you want to Disable, Manual, or Automatic each item.

Automatic updates: disabled
Backgrnd int transf serv: manual
Event log: can't be stopped
worked fine for me

i could only update this via windows update myself,as i also had the same message.
