PCs infested with 30 pieces of spyware
"PCs could be carrying nearly 30 pieces of 'spyware' software secretly forwarding information about a user's online activities to others without their knowledge. And industry experts suggest that these types of programs may infect up to 90 per cent of all internet-connected computers. "

**On average, I find over 200 spyware on users computers that I work on. And it is getting worse . . .

30 is about right..
I say between 30 - 50 pieces of spyware are counted by Adaware, mind you Adaware counts each portion of the same type of spyware as a separate piece.

I use Ad-Aware...then S&D...then Spysweeper...and 99% of the time I come up clean.
Just disable all your java-script...active-x controls...all that bull54it.
Also...use ZAP Cache cleaner everytime I go to log-off...

I have on a few occasions removed over 2000 according to adaware and spybot S&D. On a few occasions the system has to be formatted and reinstalled since the infection was so bad. Spyware is a serious issue. I encourage everyone to contact their local goverment officials and request spyware be outlawed.

Adaware, Spybot, Norton AV, and Sygate Personal Firewall 5.5 pro seem to do the trick for me.
Sygate really impresses me after trying ZAP(a pig), McAfee PF plus (not enough config options) plus it's spyware, Outpost (sucked).
It's intrusion detection system is pretty cool- Smart DHCP and Smart DNS make it so you don't have to worry about those kinds of attacks either.

spyware blaster 3.1 blocks the installation of spyware in the first place and it works great. I think what is most important is common sense. Stay off the porn sites.

Porn sites aren't even CLOSE to the worst places for picking spyware up. I see it most from sites with "legit" subjects that aren't very fussy about who they get ads from. I had one sports site try to get me to dl a different peice of spyware on every page I went to.
The couple of times I've needed to deal with a crack/serials site, they were bad too...But you expect that and stay alert....

Does it run in the background? If it doesn't I'll use it- but only if it's free.
