LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Top video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. and Sony Music on Wednesday said they are working on the soundtrack to a new video game in what is one of the widest-ranging collaborations yet between a game maker and recording label.
Under the relationship, the pair has placed a number of pre-release songs within the game, "NFL Street," and will turn two song tracks into game-themed music videos.
Electronic Arts, or EA, said "NFL Street" available on Thursday, will feature an original score from Sony artists X-ecutioners and tracks from Sony musicians including Korn, Fuel, Killer Mike and Three 6 Mafia.
Two songs from the soundtrack, EA said, will be turned into music videos featuring gameplay footage and will be released as singles for radio.
To promote the game, EA said certain Sony Music releases would come with a bonus disc featuring a demo of "NFL Street," and the production of the game and involvement of Sony artists will be featured in an MTV special.
"NFL Street" is EA's latest attempt to capitalize on its strength in sports gaming. Its "NBA Street" franchise is already a top seller, and the financial community has set high hopes for the new game's prospects.
Sony Music Entertainment is a unit of Sony Corp.
