Altec Lansing 251 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers
5.1 Surround Speakers are quickly becoming a standard among PC enthusiasts. No one wants to use 2.1 speaker setup that comes with Dell or HP computers these days. Due to high demand for quality and affordable surround sound speakers, manufacturers like Altec Lansing are focusing their attention on audio quality while still keeping the product that everyone can afford. 251 5.1 speaker set from Altec Lansing claims to meet both demands (audio quality and affordable price).

Altec...... PSH, what a waste. Boston Accoustics. A company that makes something more than just computer speakers. Has something else under their belt. Or Klipsh.

lol ... you dogg out so much stuff on this board driveeuro... i have to disagree with you though... i have been using altec lansing products awhile and i have been quite satisfied with the surround sound systems that they make. boston accoustics and klipsh may be good companies with good products, but i will not pay their prices

I bought my Alec 4.1 system about 3 years ago. 4inch woofer. Crappy satelites. I could turn only up to about half volume before I go distortion on the vocals and the bass. Then tweaked winamp EQ and still couldn't get above 2/3 volume cuz vocal sounded like crap. Let me say. These boston accoustics I bought about 2 years ago..... I turn them to half volume and the sound is great. No distortion and no tweaking of winamp needed. My only complaint.... they are too damn loud. I bought them new on ebay. $120. $120 for a $200+ speaker system isn't too much....

Hmmm Last time I looked Altec Lansing made more then computer speakers.... Altec Lansing Pro
I own these Altec Lansing 251's and I have been able to push the hell out of them without distoring them..... They are great speakers for $60 and out perform their cost.

LOL- that review was a joke- A whole page reviewing the BOX-- then much attention to the LOOKS, and the wires, and the rubber pads on the bottom, LOL- wtf ---then ONE sentence about the way they sound....
Lot's of time describing the packaging and the colors of the speakers, I smell something rotten with this review, -
I hate reviews like that.
Like reviewing a car, spending 5 pages talking about the paint and texture of the seat cloth, the button placement- then one sentence saying, "it drove great"- wtf, am I missing something?

I don't blame the messenger- I've actually heard some altec PC speakers that sounded pretty damn good.
You wanna hear crappy speakers? Go listen to some ABIT 5.1 http://www.abit-usa.com/products/multimedia/sp53/
The worst speakers I have ever heard- I have them in a box next to my PC- not even good enough for my mom! Just horrible at anything above 1/5 volume. Grills vibrate and resonate, sub overheats and sounds like a tin can, if you push them far enough, all the speakers go out but the front left. What a joke. I got them for free because of a shipping mishap- but I am too nice of a person to sell them to anyone. At least I got a semi- nice sound card with a remote control.
I did get this with it though, http://www.abit-usa.com/products/multimedia/au10/ --- which might be nice for a home theater PC someday- with the remote and everything. That's not as good as my fortissimo III is it? Does anyone know if the chipset on the soundcard is a good one?

These are actually pretty nice speakers. (Obviously I own a set) My only complaint is the volume control - sometimes its not reachable based on speaker placement. Then again the Creative 5.1's I replaced had that silly dial volume control that wasn't much good either. I'm gonna trick my next rig with an Audigy Plantium with the LiveDrive - its all about the remote!
