Sorry about the white screen

Feel free to shoot me guys!

IE users were seeing a white screen instead on DH due to an error I made trying to get the front page to render faster.
Should be back to normal now.

Mozilla and Opera users were unaffected.

Favor? How so? You mean tweaking the site? Or do you mean by seeing a white page instead of DH?

By blocking IE and forcing people to use better browsers.

Oh, IE is fine if configured properly and has allot of 3rd party pluggins that are good too- like that one for "tabbed" browsing.

Why search for plugin's when you get the features already in a great browser. And anyways plugin's don't provide the power of having the feature implemented in the browser code. And can you get a plugin for IE that makes sure Active X doesn't install gator, etc.... for you?

No- you don't need one-- IE/ tools/ Options/Security/Internet Explorer/Custom/ -then configure Active X controls to your heart's content. Not rocket science.

Yeah, but you know I just don't see that stuff in Mozilla. I don't need to adjust settings. I don't need to search for plug-ins. It is always being worked on. New features are always being added that I like! Unlike IE which I can't remember when the last non-patch update was? 2000? 2001? I just don't see a reason to use IE with plug-ins.

Ok then explain that to everyone I know . I know I could do it but try it with them and not get a headache. Which is one of the other reasons I like Mozilla. It is the best defense against complaints about spam and gator. Here install this and use it as your web browser. And you know what I haven't had one complaint yet. I have actually had more of the opposite. They think it is the best thing ever created (well as far as browsers go). No hard feelings but I just really like Mozilla.

Well I don't know about you, but have you ever heard of security holes. Microsoft is full of them. And yes it is possible to have software installed behind your back. Ever heard of spy-ware. There are sites that compromise microsoft security holes and install software on your computer without you even seeing that pop-up to install anything.

Like this program here http://www.computercops.biz/article2820.html read the method of infection. Well I will just show it.

Quote:
Method of Infection: CoolWebBrowser is suspected to be installed by pop-ups exploiting security holes in IE. However, to date, no one has caught a live CWS installer.
I don't know about you, but this is not something I really care for. And what was the last version of mozilla you used? And Bloaty? IE is the size of WINDOWS!!! It is over 500mb and that is not bloaty? Wait IE is Windows!

So as this accounts. It is possible for people to bypass asking for installation. IE is by far much bloatier that Mozilla. And I don't know what you mean by bad taste.. but it is your choice so...

I'm glad to hear that you know about this...:) It first happened to me last night, and to be honest when I saw I was redirected to "red01-USA.xxx" (whatever that is) for a blank screen, and I noticed a small window had opened behind my main browser window--which I promptly shut!--I really thought you guys had been hacked and was going to email you this morning about it if I saw nothing posted here concerning it. Heh...:) I wonder how many so-called "hack-jobs" at web sites are actually simple errors made somewhere by the webmaster who doesn't know where his error is and tells his employers he's been "hacked" to cover it...:) That sounds pretty funny, I know, but you wouldn't believe the things I've heard people try and pass off as "a virus did it"....:) Anyway, you've written about what happened and so you obviously don't fall into that category...*chuckle*

But I did want to let you know that as of this a.m. I am still getting the redirect and white screen (but I figured out enough to overcome it and log on here and post, obviously.) As far as I can determine it looks like a javascript error to me. It does not appear to be a scripting problem (nor a vbscripting problem, if you use that), nor does it appear to be an ActiveX or mime-type embedded object problem, either. Simply put, when I toggle off javascripting in IE 6.x (WinXp sp1, all patches up-to-date as of yesterday), I can then log onto driverheaven.net without a problem, as I've done now. Unblock javascripting, and I get the redirect and white screen again.

I agree with you that this is a simple error, possibly even a javascript error exclusive to IE's java, but it's nevertheless a recent error which happened evidently because of the changes you made to facilitate faster loading of the site, because up to last night the site had always loaded fine for me with IE as the site was set up before you made the changes you've mentioned. It's very possible that such a javascript error could affect IE and no other javascript browsers, without a doubt (obviously.) IE seems to be pretty tight with respect to its javascript oversight compared to some of the other browsers, as I'm sure you know. Anyway, glad to be back on DH and hope this helps out a bit!

I just got the white screen a few minutes ago logging in with the laptop below, approximately 10:05 am. Let's see if WaltC sees it too...
