ASUS RADEON PRESS RELEASE

BUCKINGHAMSHIRE - 1st October 2003 - Provider of leading IT solutions, ASUSTeK Computer Inc., (ASUS) announced today, the new ASUS RADEON 9800XT, ASUS RADEON 9600XT, ASUS RADEON 9600SE and ASUS RADEON 9200SE graphics cards, the company's latest innovations to meet the demands of graphic cards users from the enthusiast to the value market segments. Equipped with the Visual Processing Unit (VPU) of ATI's RADEON series, ASUS RADEON series incorporates the most advanced Microsoft® DirectX® support, robust features and comprehensive software bundle to deliver performance and value for graphics enthusiasts.

The ASUS RADEON 9800XT is the flagship of the all-new ASUS graphic card series. Supported by ASUS SmartDoctorTM, ASUS Smart CoolingTM technology and distinctive twin-fan design, the ASUS RADEON 9800XT ensures a safe and quiet, over-clockable computing environment with just 38 dB(A) generated at 4700 RPM. The core, ATI RADEON 9800XT chipset, provides fiercest graphic power and highest performance in today's market. Furthermore, with a dual-DVI connector design and two DVI-to-VGA adaptors for diversified display connectivity, and a rich-array of features such as TV-out, Video-in and more, the ASUS RADEON 9800XT is a top-level 3D and video-processing solution.

The ASUS RADEON 9600XT combines cinematic quality with unprecedented mainstream power and enhanced video features. With full support for Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0 and ViVo feature, the ASUS RADEON 9600XT enables high-performance next-generation 3D game play and is the best choice for an all-purpose product designed for the performance market.

The ASUS RADEON 9600SE is the first graphic card to offer real DirectX® 9.0 performance at value pricing. The ASUS RADEON 9600SE has been designed with a cooling fan positioned over the VPU to provide a more reliable, over-clockable experience for users.

Last but not least, the ASUS RADEON 9200SE provides vertex and pixel shader features by natively supporting Microsoft DirectX 8.1 in the value-market segment. Without extra cost, the ASUS RADEON 9200SE is mounted by a heat sink on VPU for better cooling protection compared to the other reference-board makers.

ASUS RADEON Series Features

Ultimate System Protection

The SmartDoctorTM feature prevents damage to both the computer system and graphics card through an automatic monitoring system for temperature, fan speed and AGP power level.

Efficient Fan Sink Cooling System

Efficient cooling is ASUS' focus to ensure the card can be used to optimum performance and runs steadily and reliably. With the combined heat sink and twin fan design for both the VPU and memory chips, the ASUS RADEON 9800XT keeps your system cool at all times. The ASUS RADEON 9600XT also has a large fan sink for VPU and memory, a unique design by ASUS, with most other vendors offering only a fan. The ASUS RADEON 9600SE VPU is protected by a fan, whilst the ASUS RADEON 9200SE has a heat sink on VPU, compared to only heat sink and nothing on the other reference-board makers, respectively.

Smart CoolingTM Technology For Noiseless Life

This advanced technology intelligently lowers fan speed when VPU temperature decreases from lighter system load, ensuring a quiet computing environment.

New Circuit Design

ASUS successfully redesigned the RADEON 9800XT, 9600XT and 9600SE's PCB to incorporate more features. No other competing products include as many innovative and quality solutions.

ViVo Supported

With Video-in and TV-out support, the ASUS RADEON 9800XT and ASUS RADEON 9600XT provide an easy and vivid video experience.

GameFaceTM

The GameFaceTM brings users whole new experience of online gaming. When enabled in game, player can see a video of his rival or partner on screen and talk to him simultaneously. Users can also watch TV when playing games by GameFaceTM technology.

VideoSecurityTM For Security Monitoring

VideoSecurityTM is a powerful and flexible software program for users to build their own security monitoring systems. With this program, users can detect environmental changes, monitor a specific location or screen visitors and even watch video over the Internet. When unauthorized entries occur, the software takes a snapshot of the intruder and sends out a warning call to a specified account or executes a user-defined program.

Diversified Connectivity

ASUS RADEON 9800XT, 9600XT and 9600SE cards all support dual-DVI and two DVI-to-VGA adaptors, enabling connectivity to a full-range of display devices.

AGP 8X Support

Supported by the AGP 8X (AGP3.0) standard, the ASUS RADEON series takes advantage of the peak AGP bandwidth of 2.1 GB/s to offer even higher graphics performance

The ASUS Radeon Series is available now. For more information, please visit the company website at http://www.asus.com

I don't know.... Having owned an ASUS video card in the past, I can tell you it's not all fun and games. As much as they've modified the cards, they're going to have to modify the drivers. The "tweaks" and "extras" (anyone remember the invisible wall option?) are sometimes hard to get to work right, or just screw things up completely.

I may be wrong. That was when ASUS was a diehard nVidia builder, maybe they got things right this time around. I'd like to see for myself, if they've discovered how to reply to emails in the 3 years I've been trying...
