Internet Explorer 6 SP1 Update

When you use Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to view a MIME type file attachment that is handled by a custom ActiveX control, it may take a long time to view the file, particularly if the file is very large. This behavior is different from what you experience in Internet Explorer 6.0 and earlier in the same scenario. Internet Explorer 6.0 and earlier versions create an instance of the ActiveX control before the file is downloaded to the cache. However, in Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1, the file is downloaded to the cache immediately -- before an instance of the ActiveX control is created. For performance reasons, this behavior is not optimal, particularly when you view large files.

Quick Info
  • File Name: q818857.exe
  • Download Size: 303 KB
  • Date Published: 9/15/2003
  • Version: SP1
This update applies to Internet Explorer 6 SP1 with the following operating systems: Windows XP SP1, Windows XP, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows 2000 SP3, Windows 2000 SP2, Windows 98 SE, Windows Millenium, Windows NT 4.0 SP6A.

Why does it tell me that IE6 SP1 has to be installed when I try to install this? Then it stops the install. I have IE6 SP1 installed... Weird.

this update appears to be new, but outdated , the only file updated is urlmon.dll with version 6.0.2800.1216, but that was updated in August with Q822925.exe with version 6.0.2800.1226

I think that's because it is outdated, and you have Q822925 installed. It doesnt appear on Windows Update either. Just out of interest, I uninstalled Q822925, rebooted, and ran Windows Update. Q822925 was listed as needed. I then installed Q818857, rebooted, ran Windows Update again and nothing was needed. I then reinstalled Q822925 and it updated urlmon.dll to version 6.0.2800.1226. I would reccomend using only Q822925 until Q818857 actually appears on Windows Update, or more information is given about it.
