Valve's Half-Life 2 Test Results Confirmed

As Half-Life fans lick their chops in anticipation of the arrival of the blockbuster game's sequel, the battle for performance supremacy running the game's stunning DX9 3D engine is well under way. So far, ATI is maintaining a sizable lead versus nVidia, both at the high end as well as the price/performance category.

Nvidia's next major driver drop called Detonator 50, or Det50, may narrow the current performance gap between nVidia and ATI hardware. But this time around, nVidia has to cover a lot of ground to achieve performance parity with ATI GPUs' current performance levels. And in that time, a subsequent release by ATI of its Catalyst driver stack may widen that gap even further.

We got some hands-on time with Half-Life 2 and its Source game engine, and we have a boatload of performance data to show you. And we can't wait to lose ourselves in Half-Life 2's stunning 3D worlds, and see what adventures await Gordon Freeman in what looks to be the biggest game of the year.

You know what's funny..... The 5900u had to optimize drivers just to get to 30fps...... Whereas the Radeon's needed none. And to think the nVidia drivers are being further "optimized"....... i wonder how much the nVidia users will be losing for quality and detail?

I'm just wondering why they tested it against nVidia CPU's on a superior motherboard... Something tells me the "gap" is much larger if they were capable of showing that that could control a variable. How about you just stab the ATI card in the back before you start? Though I'm glad Russel cro... I mean gladiato.... I mean ATI came out winning
