BenQ, which lost its crown to Arima Communication in May and June as Taiwan’s largest handset maker, regained its lead in handset shipment volume last month.
The company said it shipped one million handsets in July, boosted by launches of new models and a lowering handset inventory levels in China. According to an earlier report, BenQ began shipments of the C200 for Motorola in July.
Arima, on the other hand, shipped close to 800,000 handsets in July.
Handset shipments from Quanta Computer are estimated at 400,000 units. Lite-On Technology, blaming transitions between new and old models, shipped only 187,000 units. According to sources, Lite-On’s shipment performance was hurt by delayed orders from Sony Ericsson. The Taiwanese handset maker is expected to post shipment growth in the fourth quarter, helped by Xelibri fashion handset shipments for Siemens.
