DRAM contract prices to rise as much as 10% in early August

DRAM contract prices will be adjusted upward by as much as 10% for the first half of this month, said Taiwanese memory module maker sources.

According to the latest pricing reports released last Friday, Samsung Electronics is raising DRAM die contract prices by 10%, with Taiwan-based DRAM makers following suit with contract price hikes of 5-10%.

The overall outlook for the DRAM market in the second half of 2003 is bullish, according to analyst reports from Merrill Lynch. This is mainly attributed to the 15% rise in DDR333 prices in July and signals from DRAM makers that SO-DIMM DDR333 die used in notebook computers are in short supply.

Taiwanese memory module makers also expressed worries that DRAM makers may not be able to meet their demand. Taiwan-based DRAM maker Winbond Electronics expects to see a tightening of supply of its DDR400 die in the second half.
