Taiwan-based United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) generated NT$21.706 billion in revenues in the second quarter of this year, up by 21.3% quarter-on-quarter, according to a press release from the company today.
UMC shipped about 550,000 8-inch-equivalent wafers in the second quarter, running on a capacity utilization of about 85%. Sales of 0.18-micron or below processed products accounted for about 38% of the second-quarter revenues, the company said.
The company’s average selling price (ASP) dropped by 1% in the second quarter, compared to the previous quarter, according to UMC.
Strong growth in demand is not projected for the third quarter due to the impact left by SARS, and the communications sector is expected to experience the slowest pick-up, but sales should recover soon afterwards with growing demand for 0.13-micron process production, the company said.
