Company sources are projecting strong July motherboard shipments from Asustek Computer and Elitegroup Computer Systems, the top two Taiwan-based motherboard makers.
Compared to the previous month, Asustek’s motherboard shipments are expected to grow 10% to 2.3 million units and ECS’s by 5-8% to 1.4 million to 1.45 million units. Asustek shipped 2.1 million motherboards in June, while ECS shipped 1.34 million.
In July, Asustek shipped 500,000 motherboards in the first week, growing to 800,000 boards in the third week, according to sources. Weekly shipment data for ECS was not available.
If Asustek ships 2.3 million motherboards in July, its monthly revenues could break the historical high set in June, according to analysts. ECS, however, should see a decrease in revenues in July following the completion of selling its Chungli, Taoyuan County (Taiwan) notebook factory to Asustek on June 30.
