Motorola receives FCC approval for WinCE-based handheld terminal

Designed for field applications, the Motorola HDT 600 Terminal was approved by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on July 21. The device is a Bluetooth-enabled, all-weather, Windows CE 3.0-based handheld terminal that features optional wireless connectivity modules and an optional laser barcode reader.

The HDT 600 is equipped with a 3.6-inch, color LCD screen with front-light and touchscreen panel ideal for capturing signatures. It also features a RS232 port to transfer data to a host PC and a 1400mA lithium-ion battery pack that will provide enough power for at least one shift of operation (10-hour duty cycle for typical use before charging is needed). Its unique shape fits the hand and a back strap provides extra grip.

An optional laser beam barcode reader enables one-hand barcode reading on both vertical and horizontal labels.

In addition to built-in Bluetooth, mainly used for short distance wireless communication to peripherals such as printers, other wireless options include: An optional WLAN 2.4GHz radio module, an optional GPRS radio module, an optional private DataTAC radio module and an optional iDEN (Harmony) radio module. It is possible to use GPRS and WLAN communication by installing both radios within the HDT 600.

Availability and pricing are not known at this time.
