The first Red Faction debuted in mid 2001 amidst plenty of hoola hypes, but soon spiralled into nothing more than a mediocre game. Now, two years later, the sequel has finally arrived on the shores of our tropical island for the local Xbox. The question that remains to be answered though, is whether Red Faction 2 has what it takes to go beyond its predecessor’s mediocre success. We'll answer that in the next few pages.
Red Faction 2 continues where the first installment had left off. The ability-enhancing Nano technology created by the Ultor scientists had fallen into the hands of a dictator known as Victor Sopot. With it, Sopot had created an army of super soldiers to fuel his desire for world dominance. But alas, fearful of his creations, Sopot subsequently ordered his elite guards to eliminate the Nano-enhanced soldiers. A number of them survived the massacre, regrouped into a team known as the Red Faction and began their bloodthirsty quest for revenge. Typical kill-the-bad-guy stuff we would say, but there are some interesting twists in the story later on which we shall not divulge.
