CAPITALISING on the surprising lead it appears to have in the 3G handset sector, NEC has released a dual camera handset - the e808Y. Unusual features include two built-in cameras - one for video calls and video capture while the other is for taking stills.
The handset also boasts a full Qwerty keyboard plus email client software to enable users to access their mailboxes over 3G.The screen is larger than previous models measuring 47 x 57 mm and the whole shooting match comes with 64 Mb of internal memory.
NEC claims that by supporting Java this handset is capable of multi-tasking. In theory you should be able to make calls while still connected to other data services from 3.
For a handset aimed at business users, this device surprisingly also supports up to 30 sixteen-voice polyphonic ring tones.
Given that 3 handsets are selling like hot cakes in the UK at present, the new e808Y should really push the company up towards the top five vendors mark.
