Dell forced to sell 19-inch monitors for £9
Dell has been ordered to honour orders for $150 monitors mistakenly put on sale for $15 (£9) by the Taiwanese government.
The mistake was live for eight hours, and apparently 140,000 people took the offer before some bod at Dell clocked the problem. However, the Taiwanese government, dangling the threat of prosecution due to violation of fair trade laws, says it is forcing them to honour the agreement. ____________ Source: Tech Radar |

EDIT: Sorry my mistake was Dells error but still a pile of money.
140,000 x 150 = 21,000,000

If they really force them to go through with the sales, some poor sod is really going to get roasted because of this.
I'd say that selling monitors at that price isn't fair trade, if it weren't an error, it would have probably been considered anti competitive.

Re: Dell forced to sell 19-inch monitors for £9
Screw Taiwan, it was probably goverment orders that accounted for most of the 140,000 sales and that's why they want the deal honored. It was a mistake and Dell should not have to honor it (price errors happen all the time in North American flyers and there are disclaimers to cover their asses if an error occurs).

Re: Dell forced to sell 19-inch monitors for £9
I don't really agree with the majority here, sorry but I don't honestly believe that if they have a pricing mistake they should be allowed to sell it at a higher price, either make sure you double check your work, or honor the fact that you're a moron.
I do however believe that they should not have to honor 140,000 orders, but to individuals, there does need to be a compromise. 100$ or something. Either way, I get tired of companies going oh it was a mistake, you lose. |

Re: Dell forced to sell 19-inch monitors for £9
Nobody loses, there's no such thing as 140000 free monitors. It's not some sort of a deal that backfired on them, it was a simple clerical error, someone didn't press the '0' well or the keyboard didn't register. In a retail store, the mistake would become obvious at the counter and quickly corrected, but since this was online, the computers just billed what the database said the price was and carried on.
EDIT: And yeah, if I bought one of those and was told "Sorry, our bad, no monitor for you, we'll give you your $15 back.", I'd be disappointed, but that sort of final outcome would still make more sense to me than a $15 monitor.
