Surely it comes down to price and avaialbility, as i doubt anyone, even the "never change" 19% would turn down broadband at the same price.
Also, what is the dialup system in the US? - in the UK, pay monthly to the ISP and pay for call as well, shattered by 0845 ISPs like Freeserve, gave way to PAYG (pay for the call, no subscription) or pay monthly (freecall), with pay monthly surely set to dies out, as it's generally as expensive as the cheapest broadband.
Dialup is going to end up serving the occasional users, the light users under the impression that "broadband is for downloaders", and those who cannot get broadband.
Even an average browse and email user would find broadband faster and more responsive, while also being able to get away with seriously quota limited "dialup replacement" broadband.
