Plasma, LCDs blamed for accelerating global warming
A gas used in the making of flat screen televisions, nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), is being blamed for damaging the atmosphere and accelerating global warming.

How harmful is to make CRTs? More or less? What about the 3 times or so more energy required just to operate a CRT? Doesn't that affect the environment? Then the whole thing like extra materials and fuel to move the CRTs compared to the TFT/LCD etc?

Note the key phrases in that article:
"...Levels of this gas in the atmosphere have not been measured, but scientists say it is a concern and are calling..." "...that output of the gas needs to be measured. ..." "... So the real question we don't know is how much is escaping and getting out. ..." Translation: Give me money for research.
