No matter what you use for your computer's internal storage solution, data backups are an absolute must. Even if your PC is outfitted with a drive mirroring system, you need to save off your data somewhere else on a regular basis.

Mirroring data by employing something like RAID level 1 is great for protection against physical drive failures. If one of the drives in your system's array crashes (something that recently happened to yours truly), the other drive or drives in the array will pick up the slack. If, however, the failure is of a software-based nature and results in data loss, the mirroring system will replicate the problem across the array. Without a backup of the data, you might be out of luck.
