NVIDIA is launching the successor to the GeForce 8800 GTX! Will the new GeForce 9800 GTX live up to the impressive legacy of the 8800 GTX? Is the 9800 GTX an upgrade? Or is it a step backwards? We evaluate the new card from BFGTech.

It seems that within the last few months, no matter which way we look there is always another graphics card launch on the horizon. It used to be that the high-end cards were launched first and were then followed by the mid-end and lower end cards a few months down the road. Well, recent trends have been anything but normal and the market has been rife with all manner of cards from both ATI and Nvidia which are squarely targeting the more budget-minded consumer. There has never been a better time than now to be looking for a graphics card even though Nvidia’s lineup in particular has become extremely confusing for any first time buyer. Today marks the release of yet another assault on the sub-$400 price point by Nvidia with their eagerly-anticipated 9800 GTX.

NVIDIA's onslaught of new graphics cards based on the company's G92 graphics processor continues today with the introduction of the GeForce 9800 GTX. As its name suggests, the GeForce 9800 GTX is the successor to the wildly popular and unusually long-lived GeForce 8800 GTX.

It would seem like NVIDIA's PR plan for the new year is to just keep reviewer's so busy with THEIR products that we could not possibly have time to find the benefits in their competition. So far, it seems to be working, and this week we have yet another NVIDIA launch (I'm really hoping this YANL term catches on); the culprit this time is a new graphics cards by the name of the GeForce 9800 GTX.

Review: PC Perspective

Video cards are launching left and right these days and it’s been a confusing time for many consumers. Trying to tell people that many of the latest GeForce 8 series cards have the same core as the GeForce 9 series isn’t an easy thing to do. To complicate things even more, NVIDIA has been reducing the frame buffer size on the latest video cards. This is not only confusing to consumers, but the media as well. Today is no different, so sit back and we will try to walk you through what is going on.

Today NVIDIA launches their new GeForce 9800 GTX card. This is the third card in the GeForce 9 Series after the GeForce 9600 GT and the GeForce 9800 GX2.
The card is based on NVIDIA's G92 graphics processor which is also used on several GeForce 8 SKUs. Overall this card is very similar to the GeForce 8800 GTS, the only difference are the higher clocks, and the PCB/cooler of course.
