Creative: Asus Misleading Customers on EAX Drivers
PC sound card maker Creative Labs said today that rival hardware manufacturer Asus is misleading its customers by claiming that new drivers for Asus sound cards support EAX, a set of environmental enhancements for sound in games.
Responding to an announcement by Asus that newly released drivers for its Xonar line of sound cards support EAX, Creative communications VP Phil O'Shaughnessy said that the drivers effectively trick games into outputting EAX-capable sound.

If it works it works, creative is just mad because they can't even get there own drivers right, hell I waited for months to get a working Vista x64 driver that worked with 4G of ram so they shouldn't be complaining but rather patting Asus on the back for there own efforts.

sounds like something i still don't care about because eax doesn't justify much of anything...
i'm perfectly happy with the quality and the pure surround sound capabilities of DTS Connect....

DTS is still a lossy compression… you lose audio quality using a surround spdif connection, with a decent soundcard (read: not onboard) you get a much better sound quality than most low-mid range decoders, while keeping a fully uncompressed sound signal, which on it's own give a higher quality, though DTS does use a higher bitrate than AC3
on the topic - if ASUS are not claiming to support EAX and it's reverb/positioning effect, only more 3D voices, (which the article is a little vague/contradictory on, but i think that's what's happening) then i don't see that theres anything creative should care about…
