AMD Phenom 9600 Vs. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600: Fight! @ Extremetech
Review: Extremetech
_______________ Today, you can actually go out and buy AMD "true quad core" Phenom CPUs. As Jason Cross noted in his earlier Phenom preview, AMD is shipping its Phenom 9500 (2.2Ghz) and Phenom 9600 (2.3GHz) CPUs. A Phenom 9600 will set you back about $275—not too shabby for a quad-core CPU. In fact, that $275 puts it in the same price category as Intel's Core 2 Quad Q6600, which cost around $280 |

Not a good showing for the green team - looks like the 2.4GHz Phenom (when it arrives) will have to be the one that is made price comparable with the Q6600, as it may just about level with it.
Is Phenom "too little, too late" for AMD?

Phenom IS too little, too late...it is maybe comparable to intels quad core at same frequency, but core2quad are much easier to overclock...Q6600 will set you back some 275 bucks and you can very easy hit 3GHz and beyond with it...

It needs to be clocked little faster to compare, and quite a bit cheaper to compete.

Phenom is where the fanboi people flock..... its like a effing bug-zapper, the zap is coming when yorkfield midrange chips hit ground..... intel dominated in every performance category since Core's launch.

yea... i guess i should be happy there are still AMD fanboi's around to keep them afloat..... if they completely fell under, i bet production and research at intel would be at a screeching halt after Nehalem....
but still, they simply are no threat to Intel or their last generation Quads..... just look at the Q6600, it beats AMD's choices in all real-world apps and is only like 17 points behind in 3DMark06. Phenom is a piece o' shit when it comes to OCing.... cant pass 3.0GHz at 65nm for crying out loud! Q6600 can go 3.4GHz and higher. Yorkfield can go 4.5-5GHz easy...... lol people say Phenom is aimed at the Q6600, its not, its aimed at the Yorkfield based cores, retarded fanboi people are complaining about pitting the QX9650 vs the 9600 X4..... how its a $1000 chip vs a $300 one. they need to get that the lower variants of the QX6950 is what Phenom is to attack, and if the EE can beat it, then the regular chips certainly can.

Some of the Retail QX9650s arent even doing 4ghz on air/water that well unfortunately, hopefully we will be seeing something from AMD, but things arent looking the greatest for them right now.
They should have withheld shipment of Phenom/Bacelona until all the bugs were worked out, instead of rushing a product to try and make back losses for holdays (if that was even their intention) but it came later than promised, and AMD needs to be more open about the production problems and things currently going on with their new stuff, its certainly not making people happy. And just like AMD is having their problems now, Intel had Netburst, and Pent D
