AMD may be planning a dual-GPU RV670 card

Source: Tech Report
_____________
A good chunk of information has already leaked out about AMD's upcoming RV670 graphics processor, and it looks like the GPU will make it into a pair of mid-range graphics cards and onto store shelves in the middle of next month. However, according to the folks at Fudzilla, AMD has additional plans for the RV670 next year.

Fudzilla reports that AMD is planning a "Radeon HD 2950X2X" graphics card for a launch in the first quarter of 2008. If the name reminds you of Nvidia's GeForce 7950 GX2 "SLI on a stick", it's no coincidence. The 2950X2X is said to pack a pair of RV670 graphics processors in a single card, although both GPUs will share a circuit board instead of fitting on two adjoining PCBs like in the 7950 GX2. This shared-board arrangement may be aided by the RV670's 55nm process technology, which could help keep power consumption somewhat manageable.

The Radeon HD 2950X2X will reportedly deliver a total of 640 stream processors and 1GB of GDDR4 memory. That's exactly double the specs of the faster of the two RV670-based cards coming next month, which is expected to pack 320 SPs and 512MB of GDDR4 RAM.
