R600's secret weapon revealed; an internal sound card
Source: The INQ
___________
R600 HAS A secret weapon, an internal sound card. This is the one thing that Nvidia's G8x can't match, other than HDCP on dual-link HDMI.
The ATI sound implementation is not GPGPU code. It is dedicated silicon, probably brought on by the Vista DRM infection and MS twisting arms to force it on people.
In any case, R600 will be compliant with the Vista requirements and can send sound directly over a HDCP/HDMI link. We are told this is a full HD sound setup, not a cheesy 2.1 channel thing.

By the time AMD releases the R600, nvidia will release the next generation. What is taking them so long?

Why can't AMD stick to making video cards and not throw in crap people aren't asking for, it's just gonna drive up the price and add more driver problems.

I think it's not impossible - maybe some SSD drive integrated on motherboard...
EDIT: That R600 integrated sound card is probably some Realtek codec:

Any real news on the sound market is good news at this point. Hopefully they'll incorporate sound chips on most new card types and not reserve it just for the high end. It better be a relatively simple chip that just works, rather than something that tries to be too advanced. Only Creative Labs can afford to fail and still do well on the market.

So long? you mean long as expected?have you guys that say this not been alive
the last 7 years? Nvidia releases a card 1st, ATI always fallows after that with of
course usually better in some way hardware. Usually it's 3-6 months, The time has \
shifted longer due to delays with the X1k series. That needed to be marketed or it
would have been suicidal to eat the R&D costs. It's business sense hard to fathom
for the average Joe. It all about the Benjamen's $$$.people get this over due sence
after you hear rumors of dates that come and go yet when the real ETA dates (unkown
to the public ) useally stand.
For one RS600 chipsets motherboard have already been shipping since march 7th
I know because I have one. They have X1250 integrated with a HDMI output. so value
OEM systems / laptops etc are already rool'in if not already in the stores.

Let me put it in another way.
Vista DX10 is out. Nvidia (though with poor drivers) has graphics cards that support it for months now. AMD has nothing.

K, so it has pass-thru so what? Also how much of the market will this actually effect? 1.2% come on I buy expensive video cards to play games on not media. Don't forget Nvidia already has a card w/ HDMI. Nice feature yes but honestly pretty useless unless you have a specific function for it.

Hmm..maybe this is their way of saying sorry to all the AIW users. Hmm..built in dual digital HD tuner w/ HDMI output would be nice.

Have you not been alive the last few months? The delays are not just in people's imaginations.
"Henri Richard: The R600 will be out in the second quarter. The reason we decided to delay the launch was that we wanted to have a complete DX10-enabled solution top to bottom. A lot of people wrote that the reason it is delayed is because of a problem with the silicon, but there is no problem with the silicon. We are demonstrating it. We can ship it today. But if you think about it, looking at where the market is at, the volumes are going to be in the R610 and R630, so it makes sense for us to do a one time launch of the entire family of DX10 enabled products. That meant delaying the R600 for a few weeks, but frankly it doesn't make a difference in the life cycle of the product and talking with our customers and partners, they felt that it would make a bigger impact with one full launch. So we decided to do that."

Guys, think a bit seeesh instead of just blowing your head off.
If you push too hard and make it release ASAP, would you rather dealing with shitting card. Yeah 8800 is nice but really I have to deal with countless of customer to fix the problem with Vista. I don't want to deal with problem when it comes to my computer. I for once glad that they postponed it so they can try to make their customer happy.
I rather not deal with broken card.
So quit being a baby and be patients.

It doesn't matter if there are any DX10 games out now or not. Nvidia keeps selling 8xxx series cards and AMD has nothing.

i find that statement to be nothing but BS. IMO, there's something wrong w/the card that they're trying to fix, and while fixing it, they will also have the low end and mid-range cards out.
