Early Daylight Savings a bust in power savings

Source: Reuters
________
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The early onset of Daylight Savings Time in the United States this year may have been for naught.

The move to turn the clocks forward by an hour on March 11 rather than the usual early April date was mandated by the U.S. government as an energy-saving effort.

But other than forcing millions of drowsy American workers and school children into the dark, wintry weather three weeks early, the move appears to have had little impact on power usage.

Figures as much.

The government just needs to back off from silly crap like this and focus on doing REAL work.

They should up the Cafe standards so that cars need to be averaging 35 mpg by 2012 or something.

They need to FORCE a change to Hydrogen Fuel Cells in cars.

They need to allow more Cogen power creating plants to be built (electricty from natural gas) and other types of clean power plants.

We need to STOP allowing NASCAR and OPEN WHEEL car racing. All that does is eat up fuel, burn up tires and screw up the environment. Dorky left turn only crowd...

I hate the time change. If daylight savings time is so great, why don't they just make is saving time all year long.

Why would you want to get rid of racing? The amount of patrolium in tires and gas is minute compared to the aviation industry, or even public bussing.

With your line of thinking we should outlaw all powerfull computers, big screens, consoles, and loud stereos because they are a waste of electricity. Everyone should be forced to use celeron powered notebooks and watch tv on a little 17" lcd because they are the most efficient available on the market.

This is a free society, if you want to change the world, buy a fuel efficient car (there are 40+mpg available in the states) or ride a bike. Use a laptop instead of a gaming computer and don't dare turn up your music or go to the movies because you'll be wasting electricity.

I was goofin, man! Acting like a zealot. Demonstrating absurdity by being absurd.

The benefit of Hydrogen Fuel Cells is that they do not have harmful emissions.

Unlike lead-acid batteries in the days of electric cars, there is not a ton of toxic crap that ends up in the landfill.

Hydrogen is easily produceable from water. Desalinate, split out the hydrogen, save it as compressed gas and wala, renewable resource. Output from the Fuel Cell? Water. How cool is that?

Expensive, perhaps. Highly energy efficient? Perhaps not. Potential benefits to air quality? Lots. Besides, Environmental Dudes get all the chicks!
