Since the launch of the GeForce 8800 line by NVIDIA in November of last year, it has been sitting on the performance crown quite comfortably with both the GTX and GTS models beating out the very top of the competing ATI graphics cards. But with the 8800 GTS cards selling for at least $390 for even the cheapest models, there is a noticeable gap in features and performance in the NVIDIA product lineup. NVIDIA is attempting to address this very gap with the new 320MB model of the 8800 GTS that features an expected MSRP of $299-329. Even better? This card is available today from several board vendors in both reference and overclocked speeds!

For three months now, NVIDIA's 8800 series has enjoyed the distinction of being the only DX10 graphics hardware on the market and the GTX is absolutely the fastest option out there enabling gamers to achieve huge resolutions and framerates with all the eye candy enabled. The downside is that the features and performance come with a price: the top of the line runs at least $550. Even the 8800 GTS weighs in at about $400.

Last November NVIDIA stunned the 3D graphics world with the debut of their GeForce 8800 family of graphics cards. Initially launching with two cards, the GeForce 8800 GTX and the GeForce 8800 GTS, the 8800 family delivered revolutionary performance with the added benefit of DirectX 10 support.

Over the past couple of months we've been singing the praises of NVIDIA's 8800 series of video card and rightfully so. They offer performance that can't be matched by anything else on the market and many times even a single 8800 GTX is faster than ATI's X1950 CrossFire and NVIDIA's own 7900 GTX SLI. The only problem thus far has been that only the well heeled enthusiasts have been able to get their hands on them because they are priced so high. Starting at $400 not a lot of people can afford even one of these cards, let alone two.
