DH Review: Freezone by Coolit

Read the review here

What if you used the TEC process from a “peltier” type cooler in combination with a traditional water block! That way, you could cool below ambient temps without the condensation, while using recirculating fluid without the need for a large radiator and bulky coolant reservoir!

Well, please join me for another “wish I thought of that sooner” moment ... the technique described above is exactly what we see executed to near perfection by the subject of today’s review, the FreeZone by Cool IT.

bug77 is on a distinguished road

So, that CPU when overclocked and overvolted is 3 degrees cooler with stock HSF? (j/k, I guess it's a typo)

Heh, I was wondering who would see that first. Those numbers are correct (after multiple tests). . .I suspect the machine BIOS is doing some "thermal management" in response to temps and loading, despite those features being toggled off.

Either that, or the temp monitoring utility is buggy. . .

A good review, after reading it, anyone buying this knows what he's getting fimself into.
I find the installation troubles this product brings kind of funny: they made the usually difficult part of assembling and filling the unit easy, and a real hell out of simply putting it into the box. True, 80mm fans are slowly disappearing from the backs of the enthusiast cases, still not supporting such option is obviously premature, and not mentioning this is shameful.
Speaking of the fan, they should have supplied a quieter one. I suppose it could be replaced and that that would be the least of one's troubles with this unit, but considering it's price one would expect to get a quieter fan than the stock one.

Nice review

Out of curiousity is the supplied fan replaceable? What type is it?
Is it available in a 120mm version which should be a bit quieter?

A technicality I noticed yesterday: when I open a picture and change the active window (Alt-Tab), the window with the image closes automatically. A quirk or a feature? It's a bit irritating since I'm currently on dial-up and if I switch back to the text to read on while the image is loading, it's gone.

been like that for ages. never thought it would be an issue, but I guess yes for some people on dial up it might be (although this is the first complaint in almost a year). I know its convenient for those on broadband as they dont have to hunt for the X. Also important I do this to stop the majority of image leeching we used to get hit with. ill see if I can alter it a little for the future.

Thank you for the reply. The funny thing is that I never noticed this until yesterday! (I know it closes on a click, either left or right, but this I really can't remember)
