What's That Noise Coming From My Computer?

Source: The Tech Zone
___________
That’s usually how it starts. You hear an unfamiliar noise when you turn on your computer. Or, you may be working along and all of a sudden, your computer stops responding. Most people just ignore either one of these signs that something is amiss. They reboot or ignore the noise.

Good artcle with which I totally agree with. I have several documents which if I ever lost I would go nuts. Although, for the backup process I like Nero's BackItUp utility, specifically the full HDD backup, since it makes a low-level backup of each of my drives which I can restore on a new HDD and continue on like nothing ever happened.

My computer's been making a high pitched noise lately when I turn it on and then for a few minutes afterwards. It's probably a fan getting up to speed, but the noise is so high pitched (like a TV being on in the other room) that I can't figure out which part it's coming from.

Gonna burn any important docs and pics tonight; all my code is subversioned so there's really nothing else I'm afraid to lose.
