Motherboard

Need a PCI-e AMD motherboard. Going to be used with an AMD X2 3800+.

How about this?

Anyone know of anything better for around same price or cheaper?

That board would rock if you really want a no frills board. Some key differences include the support for only 1.5 Gbps SATA and no ActiveArmor (NVIDIA's Hardware Firewall which is ok..). The lack of SLI was also mentioned already. I personally would just spend the little extra money for an ASUS A8N-E so I could take advantage of the NForce 4 Ultra's 3 Gbps SATA support.. Just in case I'll use it.

A chart of the different NForce 4 Chipsets can be found here.

A good board. The ASUS A8R-MVP has received kind words from AnandTech. It's also CrossFire ready if you choose to go that path.

the A8N-E. Unless you want crossfire, cause if you don't it is a waste of cash

What exactly is the difference between the A8N5X and A8N-E?

Check ASUS' website for specifics, however the major difference is the version of the NForce 4 chipset being used for the boards. The different chipsets are mentioned in the link provided in my above post.

System Specs

nF4 Ultra is worth the premium over the generic one, and SLI is only worth it if you want to run SLI.

I can't decide between the Asus A8R-MVP or A8N-E. I have no use for crossfire now but that may change later (who knows).

Opinions?

For some reason I just can't make a choice and get one. I have everything else and no motherboard...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the A8N-E the better motherboard?
